Steve Irwin (1962 – 2006)

“I’m dying.”

The dying words of the ‘Crocodile Hunter’ and TV personality, calmly uttered to friend Justin after he was stung by a stingray in the heart. Steve Irwin had been filming an underwater television documentary in the Great Barrier Reef, when he was stung by a stingray several times through the heart, causing him to bleed to death.

Robin Williams (1951 – 2014)

“Goodnight, my love… goodnight, goodnight.”

These were the final words of the actor and comedian, spoken to wife Susan the night before he was found dead. Robin Williams had been suffering from depression and hung himself at his home, aged 63 years old.

Heath Ledger (1979 – 2008)

“Katie, Katie, look, it’ll be fine. I just need to get some sleep.”

The talented Oscar-winning actor spoke these last words to his sister the day before he was found dead – she warned him against taking sleeping tablets on top of the pills he was already taking for pneumonia. Heath Ledger died from an accidental overdose of prescription medication, at the age of 28.

Aileen Wuornos (1956 – 2002)

“Yes, I would just like to say I’m sailing with the rock, and I’ll be back, like Independence Day, with Jesus. June 6, like the movie. Big mother ship and all, I’ll be back, I’ll be back.”

The last words of convicted serial killer Aileen Wuornos, she was executed at Florida State Prison by lethal injection, aged 46.

James Brown (1933 – 2006)

“I’m going away tonight”

Musician and Godfather of Soul spoke these deathbed words to his manager and friend Charles Bobbit before dying from heart failure brought on my pneumonia. James Brown died in hospital at the age of 73 on Christmas Day.

Hunter S Thompson (1937 – 2005)

“Football Season Is Over. No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun—for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your age. Relax — This won’t hurt.”

The author of “Fear and loathing in Las Vegas” left these final words in a suicide note to wife Anita. He had been suffering from depression and killed himself with a gunshot to the head, at the age of 67.

Brittany Murphy (1977 – 2009)

“As far as having a New Year’s resolution, I’d love to have a child next year.”

The actress and singer spoke these words in an interview 17 days before her death. Brittany Murphy died at the age of 32 after collapsing at her home, the cause of death was given as pneumonia.

Michael Jackson (1958 – 2009)

“Just make me sleep. Doesn’t matter what time I get up…

“I can’t function if I don’t sleep. They’ll have to cancel it.

“And I don’t want them to cancel it, but they will have to cancel it.”

According to his doctor, who was the last person to see him alive, these were the King of Pop’s final words, asking for the anaesthetic propofol to help him sleep. Michael Jackson was referring to the cancellation of a rehearsal he was due to attend, and died from an overdose of propofol and benzodiazepines. His doctor was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
