Sinéad O’Connor (1966 – 2023)

“He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally. I am lost in the bardo without him.”

Singer songwriter and activist, Sinéad O’Connor made this final tweet just days before she died, talking about her deceased son Shane. She died in her apartment at the age of 56, the cause of death was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma.

Timothy McVeigh (1968 – 2001)

“It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.”

Convicted of the Oklahoma City bombing, Timothy McVeigh chose the poem “Invictus” for his final written statement before being executed by lethal injection.

Robbie Coltrane (1950 – 2022)

“The legacy of the movies is that my children’s generation will show them to their children. So you could be watching in 50 years’ time. I’ll not be here sadly, but Hagrid will.”

The actor and comedian, most famous for playing the role of Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, spoke these words in a documentary shortly before his death. Robbie Coltrane died in hospital from multiple organ failure aged 72.

Walt Disney (1901 – 1966)

“TV Projects In Production: Ready for Production or Possible for Escalation and Story: Ron Miller, 2 Way Down Cellar, Kurt Russell, and CIA—Mobley.”

The famous animator and filmmaker left behind a written note before he died, with these mysterious words on it. Walt Disney had been a heavy smoker most of his life and died from complications after lung cancer surgery. He was 65 years of age.

Amelia Earhart (1897 – 1937)

“We are on the line 157 337 flying north and south. We will repeat this message. We will repeat this on 6210 kilocycles.”

This was the last voice transmission from Amelia Earhart’s plane before it disappeared, and is assumed to have crashed in the Pacific Ocean. The pioneering aviator was officially declared dead in 1939, two years after her disappearance.

Farrah Fawcett (1947 – 2009)

“Redmond”

Repeating the name of her only child Redmond these are the final words of the glamorous actress and Charlie’s Angels star. Farrah Fawcett died of terminal cancer at the age of 62, by her side was partner Ryan O’Neal, the father of her son.

Bob Hope (1903 – 2003)

“Surprise me.”

The actor and entertainer, on his deathbed, jokingly answered wife Dolores after she asked him where he wanted to be buried. These were his last words, and Bob Hope died of pneumonia at his home in California, at the ripe old age of 100.

Steve Irwin (1962 – 2006)

“I’m dying.”

The dying words of the ‘Crocodile Hunter’ and TV personality, calmly uttered to friend Justin after he was stung by a stingray in the heart. Steve Irwin had been filming an underwater television documentary in the Great Barrier Reef, when he was stung by a stingray several times through the heart, causing him to bleed to death.

Robin Williams (1951 – 2014)

“Goodnight, my love… goodnight, goodnight.”

These were the final words of the actor and comedian, spoken to wife Susan the night before he was found dead. Robin Williams had been suffering from depression and hung himself at his home, aged 63 years old.
